Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Residents of Saddlers can celebrate being one step closer to addressing water shortage issues more permanently as equipment for drilling new wells has arrived on island.

On Thursday morning (January 8, 2026), Cromwell Williams, Water Manager and Engineer at the St. Kitts Water Services Department (WSD) shared that a drill rig and crane truck had arrived on island as the WSD prepares to initiate drilling of a new well in Saddlers via service provider Water and Oil Well Services Ltd.

According to Williams, drilling should commence around January 15.
Saddlers is the first of 17 sites identified for potential wells following a semi-airborne hydrogeological survey outlined by Williams and Geologist Consultant Dr. Roland Hoag in May 2025, on the Department’s Water Line radio program.
The WSD’s progress in this area demonstrates the success of its multipronged efforts to improve water service overall by maintaining its commitment to finding new underground water sources and investing in desalination.
