Public Works Department Begins Road Rehabilitation Works in Suncrest

Date:

Basseterre, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the Roads and Drains Division within the Public Works Department deployed personnel and heavy equipment to Suncrest, Bird Rock, where comprehensive road rehabilitation works are scheduled to be carried out over the next two weeks.

When Public Infrastructure News visited the area shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, the team was already on-site preparing to commence the first phase of the project, which officials say is aimed at improving road conditions and delivering smoother, safer travel throughout the community.

At the junction of Liamuiga Street and Long Road in Bird Rock, the active engines of a stationed backhoe and heavy-duty truck underscored the Department’s readiness to begin the planned works.

Turning onto Long Road, Public Infrastructure News observed members of the Roads and Drains Division preparing to commence the Department’s two-week road rehabilitation operations within the community.

By midday, significant progress had already been made, with the team having excavated and levelled sections of deteriorated asphalt along the dead-end roadway. Visible signs of weathering and wear underscored the importance of the route as a key connector serving several smaller communities throughout the wider Bird Rock area.

The road rehabilitation project forms part of the Public Works Department’s broader ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians across Saint Kitts.

As work progresses in Suncrest, Public Infrastructure News will continue to provide updates on the project’s development and impact within the community.
