Deputy Director of the Public Works Department Gives Key Project Updates

Basseterre, St. Kitts – On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Xia-Xiang Claxton, the Deputy Director of the Public Works Department (PWD), highlighted the achievements of the PWD in 2024, and shared projections for 2025. At the time, she was speaking at a press conference organized by the Hon. Konris Maynard, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, Domestic Transport, Information, Communications, Technology, and Posts, at the Department of ICT’s Innovation Hub.

Deputy Director Claxton provided status reports on the PWD’s collaboration with various Ministries on large-scale, critical projects. Among those projects is the construction of the new MRI building for the Ministry of Health. According to Ms. Claxton, that project is about 40% complete. Ms. Claxton also noted that the relocation of the Traffic Department is on target for completion in February 2025.

Speaking of the PWD’s collaboration with the Department of Sports, Ms. Claxton indicated that work on the Conaree Pavillion is 85% complete and ahead of schedule with an imminent completion date. She also noted the progress made on renovations to the Kim Collins Stadium and track in preparation for a busy athletic season.

In her update on the track, Ms. Claxton said, “Civil works are in progress, and once that is completed, we have a contractor coming in to lay the synthetic material on the track itself, as well as installing the other field equipment.”

Ms. Claxton further stated that the PWD engaged the services of a contractor to repair the stadium for the Inter-School Championships in 2025.

Ms. Claxton was one of several department leaders speaking at the Minister’s Press Conference, which was held under the theme “2024 in Review, 2025 in Focus: Transforming Our Nation Through ICT, Energy, Utilities, Infrastructure, and Transport.
