The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities & Domestic Transport recently concluded a month-long internship program, themed “Making a Difference Through Doing”, that allowed fourteen (14) students to gain hands on experience in the world of work. Based on their indicated professional interests, the students were placed within the different departments of the ministry, namely Public Works, Post Office, Water and Administration and assigned various tasks.

A training exercise was held on Wednesday 17th January 2024 with Mr. Curtis Martin as the host. This exercise presented exposure to the interns about career building.

To collect feedback about their individual experiences surrounding the internship and the training session, one-on-one interviews were conducted with some of the participants near the end of the program. Glowing remarks regarding the employees, the training session and the program were communicated by the interns. They indicated that they entered the program with excitement and an eagerness to learn and were not disappointed. By the end of the program, the students had learnt various career development skills, including self-awareness, problem solving, patience, professionalism and strong communication skills, among others.

One of the interns voiced his appreciation for the program specifically because it allowed him the possibility of expanding his network.

The students expressed their profound gratitude for being selected to participate in the prestigious program and made it clear that they would encourage others to partake in internship programs if given the opportunity.
