Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – At the June 5 press conference for the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, and Domestic Transport, Quarry Manager, Jermaine Lake informed the gathering of a boost in productivity at the quarry, following the commissioning of new equipment on March 4, 2025. The equipment includes a primary crusher, secondary crusher, screening plant, and Rokbak truck. The outdated machinery previously used limited the quantity of aggregates the quarry was able to supply.
The Honorable Minister Konris Maynard, fully apprised of the situation, took decisive action to support the upgrade. This upgrade is a major step forward in ensuring a steady supply of high-quality aggregates that meet the growing demands of the island’s construction sector.
PWD Quarry Manager Jermaine Lake noted:
“The Minister has given us solid support in upgrading…[and] I am pleased to report that we are at an inflection point where we are satisfying every demand for aggregates out of the Quarry.”
– Quarry Manager, Jermaine Lake
The demands, now being met by the quarry, should reduce the importation of aggregates and increase the efficiency of road and construction projects.
“Projects should be moving along in a more smooth and timely manner.”
– Quarry Manager, Jermaine Lake
Minister Maynard stated that major capital projects set to come on stream in the near future would also benefit from the increased output at the quarry.
The investment in the quarry forms part of wider efforts by Minister Maynard to transform the operations and increase the output of the Ministry.
