SKN TransWater Project Consultation Concludes

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – The public consultation on the SKN TransWater Project concluded on June 20 with residents of St. Kitts and Nevis more enlightened about the scope of the project and its likely impact on the island as it moves one step closer to implementation.

Beginning on Monday, June 16, the general public received its introduction to the project from stakeholders in the Ministries of Sustainable Development and Public Infrastructure. Auren Manners, the Director of the Department of the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), and Daryll Lloyd, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, joined Cromwell Williams, Water Manager, and Dr. Adrian Cashman, the Consultant at CEAC Solutions, for the critical meeting at the Poinciana Room of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in Basseterre, the first of four such meetings at other locations both in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The project, which originated to mitigate water scarcity in St. Kitts and Nevis, is in the project preparation facility (PPF) stage. The consultation was a critical part of that stage and a requirement of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), from whom the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) is seeking funding for the project.

On Wednesday, June 18, Auren Manners, Cromwell Willams, and Dr. Adrian Cashman were the featured guests on Freedom FM’s Issues with Austin Edinborough, where they discussed the project in greater detail. The discussion spanned the project’s origin, its present status and its desired implementation in 2026, with considerations given to the technical support and human resources needed to contribute to its success.

The SKN TransWater Project is both an acknowledgment of the negative consequences of climate change on our country’s water resources and an embodiment of solutions aimed at mitigating them.
