Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – As residents set out on their morning commutes on Monday, August 25, 2025, the Roads and Drains Division (R&D) of the Public Works Department (PWD) had two goals in mind:
- To make the public’s commuting as uneventful as possible by removing any debris or residue from unintentional spills from the road.
- To advance PWD’s ongoing road projects in an efficient manner.
Early Monday morning, the faithful workers assigned to the R&D departed the yard of the PWD, heading to two main locations to facilitate improvements to the roads and drains there.
Members of the R&D’s asphalt crew dispatched to George Street, Basseterre, to continue their work on the drains under construction as part of the overall project to improve public infrastructure in that area. Progress has already been made on installing new water infrastructure beneath the old road surface, in collaboration with the St. Kitts Water Services Department.
Now the PWD is steadily working to complete that project so that residents and businesses can resume their daily activities in a seamless manner. Currently, the PWD is carefully concentrating on ensuring that the area is outfitted with new drains that will improve the flow of wastewater and runoff through the area.
A second crew deployed to West Farm, in the vicinity of Ross University, to remove residual concrete that spilled onto the island’s main road and presented unexpected traffic woes for commuters.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the R&D has scheduled patchwork in multiple locations in the northern half of the island.
Location | Activity | Status |
(George Street) Basseterre | Drain work | Ongoing |
West Farm (Ross University) | Cleanup | Completed |
Lodge, Newton Ground, New Guinea, and Verchilds | Roadwork (patching) | Scheduled |
The PWD continues its thrust to maintain and improve the island’s infrastructure and invites the public to follow its progress at mopieudt.gov.kn and the Public Works Department’s Facebook page, and the Ministry’s Social Media pages.
