Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – In his 2026 Budget Address on Thursday, the Honourable Konris Maynard, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities and Domestic Transport; ICT & Post, and Member of Parliament for Constituency 3, recently announced significant investments in sports infrastructure set to benefit his constituency.

Minister Maynard highlighted the construction of a new storage and bathroom facility at the Patsy Allers Playfield. He also shared that the upgraded facility would provide secure storage, shelter, and restroom amenities for sporting teams and community groups that utilize the venue and said that work on the project is nearing completion.

Another major milestone for sports infrastructure development is the Cabinet’s decision to allocate funding for the construction of a brand-new stadium at the Lime Kiln Playfield.

“The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has specifically budgeted funds to start the construction of a brand-new stadium on the Lime Kiln Playfield. It is itemized under the capital projects for the Ministry of Sports.”

The Public Works Department, working alongside the Ministry of Sports, has completed design plans for a modern, multipurpose facility. The proposed development includes spaces for cricket, football, basketball, parking, storefronts and lighting.

The Minister noted that inclusive planning has been a central feature of the project’s development process, stating:

“The sporting teams were consulted and continue to be consulted as the project moves into procurement stage early in the new year.”

These projects represent a significant step forward in addressing long-standing sporting infrastructure development issues.
