Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Pedestrians and road users travelling along the Irishtown Bay Road can soon restore their confidence in the fidelity of the sidewalk following rehabilitation work that the Public Works Department (PWD) commenced on Friday, November 11, 2025, to address a partial collapse of the sidewalk that occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The collapse prompted a swift response from the PWD who assessed the site to determine the appropriate actions to restore the integrity of the sidewalk.

On Friday, November 11, MoPIEUDT NEWS spotted crew and equipment at the site as preliminary restoration work got underway.
Steady waves splashed over the sidewalk and onto the shore in the area without protective boulders. We observed how the impact prompted both pedestrians and drivers to veer away from the coast to avoid the water at the center of the PWD’s activity.

With the rehabilitation work now underway, the PWD continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining public infrastructure for the enjoyment and safety of the general public.
