Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, senior staff of the St. Kitts Water Services Department (WSD) engaged in a discussion on water management, intended both to promote transparency in the WSD’s operations and to build public confidence in the leadership and direction of the Department.

Water Manager and Engineer Cromwell Williams, and Chief Engineer Landrith Mikhail Isaac were the first guests on the WSD’s Water Line program for 2026, where the pair highlighted the strategic priorities of the Department, discussed new and ongoing initiatives, and detailed how the plans and operations of the WSD speak to the wider mandate of sustainability.

Speaking of the top priorities for the Department in the new year, Williams itemized them as follows:

  • The final commissioning of the Basseterre Desalination Plant
  • Well-drilling
  • Construction of new reservoirs
  • Reducing losses

“Those are…the four main areas in which we have to concentrate […] in order to overcome the […] water shortage.”

– Cromwell Williams

Isaac reiterated his colleague’s statement, adding that the WSD is also prioritizing improvements in its internal operations through documentation and capacity building, stating:

“We are also working on our internal governance: creating standard operating procedures; asset management; and workforce development.”
