Basseterre, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – Residents of Saint Kitts will soon have another opportunity to learn more about the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities’ SOLARISE initiative when Energy Unit Director Dr. Bertill Browne and Energy Officer Denasio Frank appear on Freedom Morning Express on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 10:15 a.m.
SOLARISE, short for Solar Integration for Sustainable Energy, was officially launched by the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis on April 30, 2026, as a comprehensive framework for regulating the installation and grid integration of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including systems with battery energy storage. The initiative forms part of wider national efforts to expand renewable energy, strengthen energy security, and reduce Saint Kitts and Nevis’ dependence on fossil fuels for electricity generation.

Embedded in the program is a system of incentives, or tariff policy, that allows for the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC Ltd) to compensate homeowners and businesses for the energy their systems feed into SKELEC’s grid.
Officials have previously stated that the initiative will benefit both consumers and SKELEC. Dr. Browne and Mr. Frank are expected to discuss those benefits in detail.
The pair is also expected to clarify any program areas that may present uncertainty to consumers who remain apprehensive about participating in the generation of electricity under the initiative.
Renewed interest in SOLARISE comes nearly six months after its launch, following a discussion about the initiative between two of Freedom 106.5 FM’s radio personalities on Monday, October 5.
The upcoming guest appearance will provide an opportunity to address any misconceptions about the initiative while ensuring that the public hears directly from the experts instrumental in its creation and implementation.
