Basseterre, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – On February 8, 2024, the Public Works Department held talks with key stakeholders in the FT Williams Highway East and Saint Peters Main Road Rehabilitation Project. The talks, aimed at streamlining the communication process between the various stakeholders, convened at approximately 9 AM Thursday in the PWD Conference Room.
PWD Director George Gilbert chaired the meeting, supported by his staff who comprise the project management team.
Representatives from the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC), The Cable, Flow, and Water Services Department attended. The owner and staff of the contracting company, Rock and Dirt Limited, also participated with the guidance of the company’s legal representative.
The goal of the meeting was to facilitate better communication and workflow among stakeholders to prevent unnecessary project delays. A direct outcome of the meeting was the identification of deputy personnel within each stakeholder group who could handle communication if primary personnel become unavailable to other stakeholders.
The importance of identifying service providers’ utility routes and equipment above and below surface level and coordinating efforts that call for identifying, moving, or upgrading them to accommodate the new roadway were also discussed, with stakeholders agreeing to give notice of 24 – 48 hours when requesting assistance concerning such matters.
Director Gilbert also notified the group of plans for an upcoming town hall meeting with residents along the defined route, and requested their presence to accommodate discussions with the public about the project’s progress.
On completion, officials envision that the road rehabilitation project would improve transportation along the main roadway of Saint Peters, facilitating ongoing development and the overall comfort of residents in the area.
