Basseterre, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – The Basseterre Desalination Plant is back online following maintenance on two lines at the facility on Thursday, October 15.
At approximately 5:18 p.m. on Thursday, Plant Supervisor Francis Zelaya told Public Infrastructure News that repairs had been completed and the plant was already back online.
Earlier on Thursday, the Water Services Department (WSD) advised of the potential for service interruptions, even as water from the plant’s 500,000-gallon on-site storage tank continued to be supplied to the wider distribution network. By Thursday evening, no related service interruptions had been reported, and Zelaya said the risk of interruptions had been significantly reduced.
Zelaya thanked his WSD colleagues for their efficient work in restoring the plant to operational status within eight hours. He also thanked the public for its cooperation.
The Basseterre Desalination Plant was commissioned in February 2026 and can convert more than two million gallons of seawater into potable water daily when operating at maximum capacity.
