The Energy Unit’s work is guided by the National Energy Policy, a cornerstone document that is built on four crucial pillars: energy security, universal access to energy, affordable energy, and protection of the environment. These pillars not only define our work but also reflect our commitment to a sustainable energy future. The policy also targets 100 percent of electricity generation by renewable sources by 2030, a key goal we are working towards. The work also has to function within the confines of existing energy-related legislation, which includes: The Electricity Supply Act, which is the legal framework for the electricity sector The amendment to the Electricity Supply Act, which makes provision for the promotion of Renewable Energy Sources and The Nevis Geothermal Resources Development Ordinance is the legal framework for discovering, developing, and producing geothermal resources in Nevis.
