Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Public Works Department (PWD) continues its ambitious plan to repair, maintain and upgrade the roadways of St. Kitts, with scheduled work targeting diverse areas across the island.
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Roads Division continued its work on McKnight Street, Ottley’s Village, announcing on the PWD Facebook page that paving was 80% complete.
The post generated the approval of the public and commendation from one of the page’s followers.
Thank you team!

Led by Roads’ Division Manager, Zekey Hazel, the asphalt and concrete crews have, in the past six months, demonstrated their zealous commitment to addressing issues with the nation’s roadways that ordinary citizens have taken to social media to highlight.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities and Domestic Transport, under whose authority the PWD lies, has actively sought to improve interaction with the public since the PWD launched its Facebook page in late 2023. The page’s launch has enabled many persons to send private messages and videos requesting the Road Division’s assistance across the island.
On May 21, PWD’s Facebook administrators recorded the following request:
There is a dirty road in Halfway Tree that needs resurfacing badly. The road is washed away every time rain falls, and it has become inaccessible to residents of the area.

The Roads Division was subsequently deployed to the area and have successfully resolved the issue.
As the PWD continues to target improved responsiveness and public engagement, it commits to alerting the public of the team’s daily whereabouts and using the PWD’s Facebook page to log issues with the Roads Division—essential components that Mr. Hazel believes will foster greater collaboration as his division improves public infrastructure one surface at a time.
