Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Diandra Jno-Baptiste, Assistant Water Engineer with responsibility for production and supply at the St. Kitts Water Services Department (WSD), confirmed that roughly eight new drill sites have been identified as part of the WSD’s new drilling project to increase the island’s potable water supply.
Jno-Baptiste made the remarks during the WSD’s Water Line program on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, while fielding a question about the WSD’s attempts to find new sources of water as part of a broader conversation on production and distribution with her colleague, Francis Zelaya, the production manager for desalination.
The Assistant Water Engineer said that the drill sites were identified in the northern section of the island – a zone earmarked for drilling based on the increased rainfall that occurs there relative to other sections.
Jno-Baptiste stated that the WSD is finalizing contracts with the drilling company such that the public may expect drilling to begin before 2026.
The new drilling project is part of the multipronged approach the WSD is undertaking to restore water service to 24 hours a day, island-wide. It complements the construction of the Basseterre Desalination Plant and the WSD’s thrust to increase the capacity of its water storage facilities.
