Basseterre, St. Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – Approximately twenty energy technicians from across St. Kitts and Nevis, representing the public and private sector, met at the CUNA Caribbean Conference Room on Tuesday morning (August 11, 2026) to receive guidance on the application process for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems under the SOLARISE program.
The workshop formed part of the Energy Unit’s continuous effort to diversify the country’s energy sources by integrating renewable energy into the electricity grid in accordance with the goal of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities to advance the national sustainable energy agenda.
Director of the Energy Unit, Dr. Bertill Browne, said that the workshop was particularly important to ensure that the application and onboarding processes for the SOLARISE program are efficient.
“We want our technicians to be versed in the application forms to facilitate the onboarding process for their clients.
“We also want them to be trained in assessing the suitiability of various solar PV system components consumers may wish to install, by focusing on their abilities to read the manufacturers’ specifications of batteries, modules and inverters.”

In his presentation, Dr. Browne demonstrated how the various application and inspection forms should be completed, highlighting important fields, and indicating where the relevant field entries could be located in equipment specifications.
During the interactive session, participants discussed licensing requirements for installers. They also sought clarity on the regulations governing their activities under the SOLARISE program, including the parameters of their interactions with the St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd (SKELEC) concerning electricity grid connectivity during the testing and implementation phases of their installations.
The SOLARISE program was launched on April 30, 2026, by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, to diversify electricity generation in St. Kitts.
