Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 8 a.m., the Basseterre Desalination Plant was electrified, marking a major milestone in the project’s development. Following the arrival of key electrical components and personnel on October 13 and 14, the plant now enters its critical testing phase—the final stage before the facility begins delivering potable water to the community.
As the public eagerly awaits the completion of the new facility, some persons have taken to social media to enquire about the Basseterre Desalination Plant and its commissioning date.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities, and Domestic Transport, and its Water Services Department (WSD) initiated public awareness and education efforts, with plans for related initiatives to be rolled out as the countdown to the plant’s commissioning draws near.
The plant will supply 2 million gallons of water daily to residents and businesses in Basseterre and its surroundings, restoring 24-hour service to those areas.
