BEAD St. Kitts Limited to Handover New Cayon Well to the Government of St. Kitts-Nevis

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, and Domestic Transport is pleased to announce the handover of the newly constructed well in Cabbage Tree, Cayon, by its contractor, BEAD St. Kitts Ltd. The handover and commissioning ceremony will occur at the well on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. Drilling began on the well in July 2023, marking a ten-month journey since then.

The Cayon Well boasts an impressive safe-yield capacity of approximately 436,000 imperial gallons per day, a testament to its efficiency.  It is more than capable of meeting the demands of Cayon/Keys, a community of roughly 2,500 inhabitants with an estimated daily demand of around 300,000 gallons.  The water quality has been tested by overseas accredited laboratories and our Bureau of Standards/Multipurpose Laboratory, all confirming that it meets the World Health Organization (WHO) Drinking Water Guidelines.

The St. Kitts Water Services Department (SKWSD) is immensely grateful to BEAD St. Kitts Ltd for its innovative use of modern geophysical exploration techniques. Their efforts led to the successful identification of the Cayon Well site, a feat that previous companies had yet to achieve despite numerous attempts to drill high-production wells in the Cayon-Keys area.

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will continue to expedite efforts to locate and drill wells throughout the island as the continued development of our groundwater reserves, along with augmentation from desalination, is the most cost-effective and sustainable strategy to meet our present and future demands for potable water.
