Energy Unit Progress Update | (June 5, 2025)
Recent Achievements
Small-scale Distributed Renewable Energy Regulations
These regulations will provide guidelines, procedures, and specifications for connecting small-scale distributed renewable energy generation systems, such as rooftop solar PV, to the utility grid and for establishing a feed-in tariff regime in St. Kitts.
Electric Vehicle Policy and Action Plan
This document outlines the government's vision for electric vehicles and the strategy it will employ to achieve this vision. It will also detail several activities that will be undertaken in support of the strategy and to realize the vision.
Greening The Islands Foundation (GTIF) Consultancy
The consultancy will undertake several activities, including the development of a grid code, the design of control rooms for SKELEC and NEVLEC, and a study for the interconnection of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Caribbean Resilient Renewable Energy Infrastructure Investment Facility (RREIIF)
The process is underway for St. Kitts and Nevis to participate in the RREIIF. The ECCB and the World Bank designed the RREIIF to create an enabling environment for renewable energy in the OECS, thereby attracting major companies and investors to utility-scale renewable energy projects in the region.
Other Major Highlights
Solar Challenge
This project is funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan) and administered by the OECS Secretariat. It will result in a 20 KW rooftop solar PV at PWD on Wellington Road.
PV Hosting Study
This study will determine the amount of rooftop solar PV that can be installed without destabilizing the grid.
The Third Annual Career Day
The unit exposed secondary and tertiary school students to career options in the energy sector.

The Geothermal Project in Nevis
The unit is providing support to the Nevis Island Administration in the geothermal project in Nevis.
OECS Sustainable Energy Greenprint
The unit is providing support to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) on the development of a Sustainable Energy Greenprint, which was initiated by Minister Maynard in his capacity as Chairman of the OECS Committee of Energy.
