Energy Unit Launches New Mascot, Winner of the Mascot Competition Declared

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts – November 29, 2024 – The Energy Unit in the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities and Domestic Transport announced the launch of its new mascot during a ceremony held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Innovation Hub in the Department of ICT in Basseterre. This event marks the culmination of the Mascot Design Competition, which invited young minds aged 7 to 19 to submit their innovative designs aimed at raising awareness about energy conservation and sustainability.

From Left to Right: Hon. Minister Konris Maynard, Jaquori Isaac, Rianna Heyliger, and the aunt of Journey Clarke.

The competition attracted three impressive submissions, showcasing the remarkable creativity and enthusiasm of our youth. The talented finalists who were recognized during the ceremony include:

  • Journey Clarke, designer of Captain Heat
  • Jaquori Isaac, creator of Whirl
  • Rianna Heyliger, who introduced us to Eco-Tricity

Each of these entries represents not only the imagination of the young designers but also underscores the critical role that energy awareness plays in creating a sustainable future.

First place was awarded to Jaquori Isaac for Whirl! In second place was Rianna Heyliger’s Eco-Tricity, and in third place was Journey Clarke’s Captain Heat.

The new mascot, Whirl, is an energetic monkey who loves to run around and play with the people around him. His ears and tail are wind turbines that help him to store and use energy to move around. He is also able to absorb solar energy using his fur if the wind isn’t blowing much, because of this whirl does not need to eat or sleep but he still likes to do it any way.

The Energy Unit is proud to provide a platform for our youth to engage in meaningful activities surrounding energy use and the importance of sustainability. We believe that fostering creativity and innovation in our young people is essential as we strive to build a more energy-conscious community.
