Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – The Public Works Department (PWD) has officially completed the major construction phase of roadworks on George Street, Newtown. The project, which began in May of 2025, was primarily aimed at resurfacing the roadway and improving the drainage system.
The PWD team executed the removal of the dilapidated asphalt, before repaving with newly laid asphalt. Additionally, the adjacent drainage infrastructure was excavated and rehabilitated. These upgrades are expected to enhance driving conditions and mitigate flooding in the area. While a few minor finishing touches remain, the road is now fully open and accessible to the public.

Supervisor of PWD Roads Division, Raimon Browne, expressed his sincere gratitude on behalf of the department.
“We want to thank the neighbours and the residents of George Street for their patience, understanding, love and everything they did…”
– Raimon Browne, Supervisor of PWD Roads Division
The success of this project is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire team at the Public Works Department. As PWD looks ahead to future projects, it remains committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure for the benefit of the nation.
