Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – At the June 5 progress update briefing, Zekey Hazel, the Head of the Roads Division at the Public Works Department (PWD), provided an overview of major road projects the department has undertaken in 2025. In his report, Mr. Hazel identified six key areas among the first to benefit from PWD’s road construction and rehabilitation work.
Boyd’s View, Newton Ground and Palmetto Point received new concrete roads that residents can now enjoy. Meanwhile, the transition from dirt paths to concrete roads in St. Peters, St. Paul’s and Shadwell Housing is still underway.
Mr. Hazel provided timelines for the completion of several projects, including Shadwell. He stated:
“We are about 75% completed with the Shadwell project. We had some difficulties starting off, but the contractor has managed to pick up pace now. They just have a bit of centers to do for the carriage way to complete the project.”

Historically, residents in several areas were burdened by displaced soil after periods of heavy rainfall. With the attention that the PWD has paid to these areas, residents can now rest easier knowing that routes to their homes will no longer be obstructed by shifted dirt and debris from old pathways.

Another significant road project was the rehabilitation of the F.T Williams Highway and St. Peters main road. This stretch of road is a major artery connecting one of the most populated parishes to the island’s main road. The project, which began in March 2024, took approximately one year to complete. Its completion – a symbol of immeasurable benefit for the community.

The Public Works Department remains committed to upgrading and maintaining the island’s roadways to enhance the experience of motorists as it transforms the landscape of the island for the benefit of its citizens.
