Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – On Monday, April 7, 2025, the residents and business owners on Southwell Street, Newtown, welcomed new signs that the pothole-riddled will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the Public Works Department’s (PWD) Roads Division.
Roadwork began on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Since then, the team has steadily progressed despite encountering some unexpected challenges. When MoPIEUDT News arrived at the scene on Monday morning, the road was about 50% paved – good enough to be christened by the garbage truck of the Solid Waste Management Corporation.
Road Paver Kevon Henry spoke with MoPIEUDT NEWS about the nature of the Public Works Department’s activities on Southwell Street.
Notwithstanding the setbacks, the PWD advanced the project with visible signs of progress. Recounting the PWD’s activities in the area, Mr. Henry highlighted the collaboration between the asphalt and concrete crews of the roads division on the project.

This project demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the PWD to improving the roads and drains throughout the island.
