Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – Basseterre, St. Kitts – Over the past few weeks, the concrete crew of the Roads Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) has been working to improve drainage along the island’s Main Road in Verchilds.

During the week of February 17, 2025, the crew began its efforts to repair the underground culvert. This involved cutting and excavating the road and preparing the base for casting. The crew initiated concrete blinding, which is the process of creating a stable or level foundation by pouring a thin layer of concrete over another surface as a base for other construction work. The crew also began to lay matting, cast a 5″ concrete base, and lay 8″ blocks.

Work is expected to continue into March 2025. Accordingly, the PWD is reiterating its request for road users to exercise caution when traveling through the area for their safety and that of its team.
This initiative demonstrates PWD’s ongoing commitment to improving public infrastructure throughout the island.
